City Council Extends Gas Pipe Inspection Deadline

We previously reported that the first cycle filing window for NYC Local Law 152 of 2016, which requires the inspection of gas piping systems at least once every four years, was on Dec. 31, 2020—unless the City Council passes a bill to extend the deadline. In December, the City Council approved the proposed extension with Int. 2151-B.

According to the text of the law, the deadline will be extended from Dec. 31, 2020, to June 30, 2021. Owners in Community Districts 1, 3, and 10 now have until June 30, 2021, to file their first submissions (inspections or certifications, as needed) for LL 152. For hazard corrections, any buildings who submitted inspections between September and December of 2020 may submit Certifications of Correction later than 120 days post-inspection or 180 days post-inspection (as applicable) but no later than June 30, 2021. And the DOB will be conducting targeted outreach regarding this law, and the DOB will establish a comment period for public input.

The deadlines for the remaining Community Districts are not impacted. The deadline for the first group of buildings was extended to accommodate for delays due to the pandemic.
